This corneal-scleral lens design deserves the attention of practitioners and patients who have experienced troubling issues regarding comfort with prior GP contact lens applications. The Comfort XL design will overcome those comfort issues with positive results every time. Practitioners who are dealing with sensitivity to GP contact lenses or seeming GP intolerance issues should look immediately to the Comfort XL lens as the solution to their problem.
Patients who exhibit astigmatism and have tried, with unsatisfactory results, to wear spherical lenses are also likely candidates for the Comfort XL design. Industry practitioner Mark Andre prefers to apply the Comfort XL to solve any vision problems that sometimes occur with the soft toric modality. The patient who wears Comfort XL has all the benefits of a GP with the bonus of centration and superior comfort. This lens solves all fitting issues. Comfort XL is an excellent lens selection when dealing with 3 - 9 staining. In short, any time a patient is wary, for any reason, of soft or GP lenses, the Comfort XL is the obvious go-to lens. The only learning curve on the part of the ECP and the patient is insertion and removal. It takes a little practice, but can be overcome with ease. A suction cup for every patient is recommended.
Fitting sets for the Comfort XL are available in ten lens sets, 1 D step increments. 39 D to 48 D is an ideal set. The I Kone lens is a more appropriate choice for corneas steeper than 50 D. Diameter sizes are 11mm, 11.5 mm, 12 mm and 12.5 mm. Every XL lens will be Plasma Treated for comfort. Potential mismatch may be unusual corneas which flatten or steepen very fast.
