Valley Contax Announces Custom Stable Cup Competition at 2019 AAO Meeting

September 9, 2019

Valley Contax, a custom contact lens manufacturer, will be holding their Custom Stable Cup Competition at this year’s American Academy of Optometry meeting being held October 24-27 in Orlando, FL. The competition is designed to challenge participants’ clinical ability and knowledge of contact lens fitting in a fun team environment.

Throughout the trade show students and alumni are invited to visit Valley Contax’s exhibit booth (#217) in order to compete and help their school take home the Custom Stable Cup trophy. Once at the booth, competitors partner up and one applies a Custom Stable Elite scleral lens on their teammate and then also applies NaFl to the front surface of the lens. The participants then move to a TelScreen slit lamp to evaluate the lens on the eye and estimate central clearance utilizing lens fitting guidelines. Once the slit lamp estimate is complete, competitors move to an Optovue OCT where a precise central clearance measurement is taken. The difference between the two measurement methods is the score and is added to the average of their school’s overall score. The school with the lowest average at the end of the competition will win two $500 scholarships and the second place school will be awarded one $500 scholarship. In addition, participants will have a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards to be given away in a drawing at the event.

Valley Contax president Janice Adams said “The Custom Stable Cup Challenge has been a wonderful way to engage practitioners in a fun and competitive environment. It’s been exciting to see the schools prepare and rally their students and alumni to participate and of course, it’s very rewarding to see the scholarships presented as a result. We look forward to this year’s AAO event and seeing who this year’s winners will be.”
