Andrea Rossow, OD
West Metro Ophthalmology
Minnesota |
April 15, 2018 |
Patient: CR, 36 year old female |
History
CR has a history of keratoconus and ocular rosacea. Her BCVA with glasses was OD:
20/30- OS: 20/30-3, but depending on the level of dryness she would come in only able
to see 20/70 to 20/100 depending on the day. Her ocular rosacea would cause
marginal ulcers and hordeolums. Her routine to manage her symptoms included
erythromycin ointment to eyelids qhs, Restasis BID OU, intermittent courses of
Tobradex, oral doxycycline, hot compresses BID and artificial tears QID+PRN. She was
a previous soft contact lens wearer, but had been unable to tolerate them for years.
She had 3-4 mm of neovascularization inferiorly on her corneas and had been told that
she would never wear contact lenses again. |

Outcome
CR is now able to see 20/20 in both eyes and the fluctuations in her vision due to
dryness have been essentially eliminated. Her topography is much more stable
indicating a healthier tear film. She reports excellent comfort and is able to wear them
full time. The scleral lenses have helped reduce the level of inflammation on her eyes
and she is able to control her ocular rosacea with warm compresses, restasis BID and
artificial tears PRN. Neovascular vessels have emptied in both eyes, and the patient is
extremely happy with her new outlook on life! |
